Description

ComfyPlayComfyPlay® Installation & Maintenance Guidelines:

Installation:

  1. Beneath all playground equipment with a free fall height of more than 600mm and/or equipment causing a forced movement on the body of the user (e.g. swings, slides, rocking equipment, cableways, carousels, etc.), there shall be impact attenuating surfacing over the entire impact area.
  2. The critical fall height of the surfacing shall be equal to, or greater than, the free height of fall of the equipment as per Table 1 below.
  3. Prepare the ground through the use of landscaping equipment, ensuring that there is adequate drainage and that the ground surface is level throughout the entire area to be covered.  Seek professional landscaping advice if unsure.
  4. If the ground surface is uneven and cannot be levelled, ComfyPlay® must be installed at the minimum depth from the highest point of the ground surface.  The proper use of landscaping equipment such as laser levels will enable you to determine the highest point.  Again, seek professional landscaping advice if unsure.
  5. Ensure that the surface is completely free from sharp edged parts or projections.
  6. There should be no edges, perimeters or junctions with other materials within the free fall range of the play equipment.
  7. Cover the area with a geotextile membrane before adding ComfyPlay®.
  8. Spread ComfyPlay® throughout the entire impact area, ensuring the minimum depth is achieved as per Table 1 below.

Maintenance:

  1. Ensure that the minimum depth as per Table 1 below is maintained at all times.
  2. ComfyPlay® should be raked back into position after use to ensure that the minimum depth is maintained at all times through the entire impact area and also to avoid excessive compaction of the material.
  3. Any contaminants should be removed and affected material replaced.
  4. ComfyPlay® should be top-dressed on at least an annual basis to compensate for any material breakdown and to ensure that the minimum depth is maintained.
  5. The frequency of maintenance and inspection may need to be increased depending on the area’s surroundings e.g. access/exit areas and other factors e.g. heavy use, levels of vandalism, coastal location, air pollution, ageing of material etc.
  6. Lack of maintenance can reduce the impact attenuation properties.
  7. Keep maintenance records at all times.

Inpsection:

  1. Take regular measurements of the depth of the material at various test positions to ensure that the minimum depth is maintained.
  2. Ensure that the distance between these test positions is no more than 500mm.
  3. The frequency of maintenance and inspection may need to be increased depending on the area’s surroundings e.g. access/exit areas and other factors e.g. heavy use, levels of vandalism, coastal location, air pollution, ageing of material etc.
  4. Keep inspection records at all times.

Table 1 (as tested in accordance with EN1177):

Material Description Minimum Depth Critical fall height
Woodchip 5 to 30mm grain size
100mm* ≤2.30 metres
200mm* ≤3.36 metres
300mm* ≤3.36 metres
* For loose particulate material, add 100mm to the minimum depth to compensate for displacement
